Wow, I hate traffic, with a burning passion. The bumper-to-bumper traffic that extends all the way from the moment I enter 59 and until I get off at the Galleria. afwjiefgajfiaiughaiu. The only way to avoid traffic is if I get to work SUPER early or pretty much late or get my own personal helicopter and land at the client site.

I REALLY hate it when some jerk thinks he can just pull up to the (empty) right lane at the red light, while I am the second car on the left lane, and tries to cut in front of me as he enters the ramp onto the freeway. NOPE. You better expect that I will accelerate the heck out of my Toyota and make YOU slow down and get behind me. That’s right. I understand if you have to cut the line if you don’t know the town, but I’m PRETTY sure this ain’t your first time at the Galleria or the general area.

In other words, I got my first “adult” paycheck today (I say adult because I did get paychecks in my high school senior co-op, but that was for a 20 hour a week job, that consisted of me surfing the internet at least 60% of the time). I think I want to invest the first $5,000 in some sort of IRA so I can start my retirement account early. Oh yeah, I plan to spend about $300 on scotch within 2 years, after seeking advice from a friend who knows his stuff. A Highland Park 18 for special occasions, maybe my graduation. And a Balvenie Doublewood for balance and Ardbeg 10 for peaty. Can’t wait for my whisky drinking glasses to come in :)

Oh yeah, I realized I won’t be paying for lunch this entire week. Monday: leftover breakfast tacos in the breakroom, Tuesday: lunch with a partner and his group in the Galleria, Wednesday: my senior picked up my Chick-Fil-A meal, Thursday: Raku Sushi with my peer adviser and counselor and another fellow intern. And tomorrow, it’s all the interns and the partner who interviewed me last year at Guadalajara. Yay for free meals.

All my coworkers are like “go home!” when its around 5:30, but I WANT to stay, because I can cut down on the traffic going back home and overtime, two birds.

I’ll bet in like 3 weeks, I’ll hate my work and all that scotch will come in handy. Haha.

Work is

Manageable.

This is the end of day 8 in my 10 week internship. The first week, we were at the Houston office Monday and flew to Dallas for the next four days for training. The W Hotel was NICE. All of the interns are pretty cool, a good amount of A&M interns as well as UT ones.

Well technically, this is my second day of actual work, which is what I would describe as manageable. I wake up at 7:10, leave home around 7:55, arrive at work at 8:35ish (20-25 minutes of drive). Actually, I would’ve had to leave a bit earlier if I actually had to work at the office Downtown, since I will be at the client for most of my internship at the Galleria, pretty nice if I wanted to do shopping (HA!), but lots of choices for food :)

So currently, I can only describe my work as data entry into various databases and forms. I believe tomorrow will be when I become somewhat producing the data that I will enter, so we’ll see if I’m ready for “real” work.

I’ve noticed that I get REALLY tired around 11:00 and 3:00, even if I am preoccupied. And I’m pretty sure I could say at work 20 more minutes in order to save 10 minutes of drive, which is really good, since I get paid overtime :D

On a different point, I am experiencing a bit of Fear Of Missing Out, which I will presume will get worse during the weekends :|

But it does feel good to dress like, act like, and get treated like an adult. Adult issues scare me: community/fellowship, dating/marriage, buying a house, kids (both having them and dealing with them, especially when they’ve grown up having cellphones and influence of pop culture on kids).

We shall see.

Well it didn’t PERFECTLY capture the 90s, but some pictures definitely got me superrrr nostalgic. Man. The 90s were the best, even though I only know the kid part of it, but still. The video and photo quality, the crazy hairstyles, actors when they were younger. I don’t even know how to classify the 2000s, because the internet like super-revolutionized everything, as well as the technological advances, I feel like we could have a cultural decade (like the 90s) every 3-4 years. My mind is STILL reeling.

Awkward physical contacts

November 28, 2011   1 note

My dad was a romantic???

So on the way to Austin, my mom started to talk about my dad’s college days, well mainly his girlfriends. So she talks about his first girlfriend, who’s super smart but not the most attractive (he’s a workaholic and appreciates hard work, so that makes sense). They went to different colleges. So it was her birthday and he bought a cake, which cost a pretty penny because he was from the countryside and had to pay for his own tuition, for her. So he takes a TWELVE HOUR one-way train ride to see her. They didn’t have sitting room so he stood the whole time. Then afterwards, he took another twelve hour ride back since school was the next day.

I’ll probably not match that kind of dedication in my life, let alone possibly just getting a girlfriend.

PS: Okay, that’s not exactly ‘romantic’ to some of yall but I think it is.

Organizing

I really like to accumulate my messes, then organize them all later on. It kinda lets me go over all the things that has happened between now and the last time I did so.

Right now, I’m actually adding all my phone number contacts to an Excel spreadsheet, in case my phone dies. The last time I did so (and first time) was 3/30/2010, more than a year ago. So what I notice is that I have a lot more juniors’ numbers, and all the sophomores’ and freshmen’s numbers are new. I have some people I know from my classes in it. It’s mindblowing how many new numbers have in just 19 months.

And then there’s music. I never really explored outside of the popular music and any music I found to be good sounding (I’m very picky) but I’ve been trying to listen to new music, especially since I got a new pair of nice headphones (except I can’t tell the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps or 320kbps and FLAC, fail). So, I’m trying to listen to a little Adele, and some jazz, and even some country (country dancing helps with this genre :P). Oh, and some random movie soundtracks, like Titanic and LoTR.

I also realized that I really like dancing, and teaching beginners dancing too. I think it’s really cool that freshmen and sophomores are so interested in dancing. Though I have been focusing too much on the flashy moves just because I really want to get people interested in ballroom/country dancing. But now people are lacking form, and I certainly don’t want guys to go through the moves recklessly and possibly injury someone. But yeah, I really like dancing, and the intermediate ballroom class certainly helps. I have a lot more moves for two-step, and I know more about cross-step waltz and Viennese.

Still trying to sort out the other kinks in my life though. We’ll see.

October 4, 2011

one of my bucketlist items

I really want to visit the eastern coast of the US. I want to see the scenic Maine coast, with the lighthouses and the rocks and the ocean. I want to see a New England fall, where all the autumn leaves are scattered on the sidewalk. I want to see the ivy-covered walls of an Ivy League college, like the ones we see in movies.

One day!

Clara C - Offbeat

OMG I can listen to this all day. Offbeat is so upbeat. Her voice is sooo good. I get infatuated way too easily. Ack.
